Bhopal AIIMS gets state's first Miyawaki forest

70 varieties of native species of trees will produce more than 1800 tons of oxygen in one year with 7000 trees in 24000 sq ft

All India Institute of medical sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal got state's first Miyawaki forest. This forest plantation has been done on the area of 24000 sq ft of land. AIIMS Bhopal has picked up the idea of Miyawaki Plantation introduced by DIVYA. This is an initiative of creating forests by miyawaki technique. More than 7000 trees are planted in this area of 24000 sq ft.

What is miyawaki?

More than 7000 trees are planted in this area of 24000 sq ft.

What is miyawaki?

It a way of plantation named after Miyawaki Akira. He was born in 1928) and is a Japanese botanist. He is expert in plant ecology, specializing in seeds and the study of natural forests. He is active worldwide as a specialist in the restoration of natural vegetation on degraded land. His way of plantation of a dense forest in a small area is now named as miyawaki forestation.

How is miyawaki done?

This technique develops a dense forest with 4 types of plantation. Herbs, Shrubs, Trees and Canopy. At four different levels this plantation is done. This dense forest is self sustainable and doesn’t needs any care after 3 years of plantation. First the soil testing is done to find out the actual amount of minerals in it, then according to that the elements are added to the soil. This perforated mixture is placed where plantation is done. A thick 12 inches layer of leaves and biomass is spread on this forever. It is 30 times denser than a normal forest and grows 10 times faster. An organization working on Miyawaki since 5 years DIVYA says that the Miyawaki experts in Bhopal has given best results at more than 130 sites in India. Some are now coming up with the herbal Miyawaki.

Rare to find Medicinal plants at one place

This forestation not only produces more than 950 tons of oxygen every e\year but also purify air. It holds water and increases water retention capacity of land around this forestation. The fruits and flowers from this forestation are reserved for Birds and supporting species. These further results in the nesting of birds and increasing the numbers of offspring’s of all dependent species. We are doing it as a social cause and will be done free of cost for AIIMS Bhopal.

No maintenance-and no other use other than forestation

Akira Miyawaki states that this forest will have no maintenance after 2 to 3 years of establishment. No woods, no leaves, no fruits and no other things will be taken out from this forest. Leaves and woods would be the manure for the further years. These leaves will also prevent the direct sun rays on the ground and will prevent water from getting evaporated.
